Patch, welcome! Great night it was and good to see you again! Hard to believe it's been ten years since we met at the FD/Hootie bash! Hotel was OK but spent ages trying to convince drunk party-goer lady at reception that I wasn't here taxi driver. Confused

PS my mint "Big Lad" shirt is now stored away again until next time.

PPS the Magenta DVD was on a "return if you don't like it", and Dave likes it. Shocked

I'm not sure exactly Dave; I suppose the last 2 tracks are my favorites on the DVD, although "Gluttony" is up there to. Wink

Here are some important dates for your diaries. Magenta will be about next year:

28th Apr 2007 07:00 PM Herringthorpe Leisure Centre, Rotherham
Details TBC
Link: Classic Rock Society

13th May 2007 2:00 PM Cheese and Grain, Frome
Headlining Frome Prog Fest, with Pineapple Thief, Crimson Sky and Electric Soup
Link: www.cheeseandgrain.co.uk

23rd June 2007 12:00 PM Zoellner Arts Centre, Bethlehem, PA, USA
Nearfest 2007 Festival
Link: www.nearfest.com

So if we get It Bites end of Feb/early March it will be sorted, for me anyway. Wink

Could be interested in a meet up in Rotherham for that classic rock gig. What do you reckon?

List me the Magenta albums I need to acquire in preparation for this monumental event please.
BTY - the Herringthorpe is a dreadful venue. Saw Kino in there and the sound was appalling.

I don't know. Just listened to Home, and I was terribly disappointed after all the hype. The Isntrumental sections are often clunky, predictable and repetitive, the vocals are done in a precious and mannered style and the melodies, structures, phrasings and harmonies of the vocal sections are really pedestrian.

This has almost nothing to do with what I listen to Prog for. It's like the decade and a half of Spock's Beard and TFK ruling the Prog roost has made everyone forget the love of exploration, innovation and unconventional songwriting that lay at the core of original Prog. Instead, there's this drive to create bland, semi-catchy Pop Rock and stick some often incongrous instrumental bits inbetween.

If you were to take pretty much any random minute from the canon of 70's Prog, it wouldn't sound like regular Rock or Pop. Take just the opening of Dancing out with the Moonlit Knight as an example. It cycles through several keys, has a long, flowing and wide-ranging melody that doesn't repeat for a long time, and certainly isn't predictable.

I just don't get what the fuss is about.
