The first Lonely Robot album keeps being a major disappointment for me. I find almost nothing that could ignite my passion for this album. Mediocre riffs and mediocre tunes is all I hear. My first impression refuses to change.

Are you sure your disappointment at the likely demise of IB+JM as a result of his Lonely Robot project mightn't be tainting your appraisal, at least somewhat?

No, surely not. I really wanted to love this album (and I was sure IŽd love it straight away), but it just doesn`t grab me. I love KINO, I love the albums JM has done with IB, but LR is just not on a par with this material to my ears.
Be honest: Is there a song on "Please Come Home" which is on the same level as say "Loser`s Day Parade" or "Cartoon Graveyard"? I don`think so and I`m rather sad about it. I consider the first LR album to be a failure and I don`t think that would have happened with someone like John Beck involved. JM was left to his own devices and there was not enough quality control imho. But hey, this is clearly an opinion of a minority, so what do I know ...

I agree - this LR is a very poor album from JM.

None of the spark of an IB album and poor production values.

Absolutely. No reason whatsoever that he should even try to make it sound similar.

I think you're missing out the most important aspect here... that it's your opinion. I'm being entirely honest when I say that at least five tracks are excellent (to me!), and others that are on the rise.

In your opinion to be fair. Whilst I would agree that it is not at the same level of the two It Bites albums (and that's only my opinion), I still think it is a decent album that stands up well.
I can't see any problem with the production personally.

I cannot detect anything sub-standard in the production. John M is a well respected producer and produced all the It Bites stuff as well. I like the CD.

Reading his blogs it is clear, at least to me, that John has some real issues of self worth(which is probably why he is such a bloody good songwriter). It must be difficult enough as a fan to think you can come up to scratch with what went before and he maybe feels that his contributions will always be unfavourably compared with Frank Dunnery's. He strikes me as the sort of guy who could be told by 99 IB fans that his contributions are great and the 1 dissenting voice would have him questioning whether it's worth all the grief. God I hate psycho analysis!!

I have to say though that he appears to be very well respected and accepted by the big majority of the fans on this forum and this can't be just out of politeness

When Hugh Cornwell left The Stranglers in 1990 his replacement Paul Roberts had big shoes to fill too and was openly disliked by some and abused at gigs- incredibly lasting 16 years and remains an almost joke figure to a significant number of fans.

I've noted JM's Twitter account summary header bears no mention of IB - worrying?
