Bit late notice I know, but I'm off to see John Young's band Lifesigns in Swindonia this evening (in about half an hour, to be exact). Anyone going?

Lifesigns are also playing Leamington this Friday (28th). Again - anyone going? I ca't make it but it would be interesting to hear a report.

Despite being a tiny venue with only about 40 people there that was actually a bit of a cracking gig last night! Stand out song by far for me was "Telephone". Also lovely to catch up with one or two of the Progeratti - Simon Godrey from Tinyfish was there as was the Merch Fairy, Nells, and the lovely Steve Mills (who'll be playing bass for IB at Prog Splash in June) was kind enough to be my chauffeur for the evening.

I managed to speak with Jon Poole, bassist, after the show. What a lovely, lovely chap. He pointed to the IB top I was wearing and mentioned how much he loved the band. I was a bit in awe, as it goes, as he played in one of my former fave bands, the Wildhearts, but he was more interested in IB and album plans, etc, than any work he'd done! Smile

Hey Dena - I went to school with Jon Poole...we lived about 5 minutes from each other and spent most evenings writing completely bonkers songs in his bedroom.

He is a lovely chap...totally off the wall but a real softie. I owe a lot of my musical education to Jonny - he was the one that got me into It Bites, Level 42, XTC, Zappa and Cardiacs (along with a million other bands)..before then I was all Iron Maiden and Scorpions!

What chat a bit on Facebook with another school chum! I was hoping to see Lifesigns at Leamington this Friday but can't get there Sad

If anyone thinks the "Random" bit is contrived, it's not...he's always been like it!

I was toying with the idea of going to this gig tonight but decided against it due to the rubbish Bank Holiday traffic. Reckon I'll go catch them at Bilston next Sunday instead. Let us know how tonight goes!

Very Happy What a show. Supreme ( a carefully chosen word ) musicianship delivering all the songs from an exceptional album plus new tunes. Any worries about finding a suitable replacement for Mr Beggs were dispelled immediately. Jon Poole is incredible, as is Nico Tsonev on guitar. John Young and Frosty Beedle equally amazing. Their vocal harmonies are a massive strength. Enormous music. Absolutely enormous. Can't think of a better word. Just wish there were some decent live clips on Youtube to link. Security at Milton Keynes is notoriously tight! If you are in two minds about Bilston on Sunday......... Go! Best gig for a really long time.

I think Bilston needs to be done. I'll be knackered after the drive home at work the next day but I suspect it'll be worth it Smile

Awesome gig in Sheffield last night. Exceeded all of my expectations. And nice to be able to chat to John Young afterwards. Looking forward to catching them again at Summer's End 2014.
