Why odd, Dave? Facebook has far more traffic than anywhere else for IB, so I guess it's to be expected. I don't think either host has an account on the forum.

I just would have expected at least one attendee to have given a report that's all. Most live gigs get one.

I've got to say that it would be nice to see. I got feedback from Chris, the Sunday host, and obviously JM's been in touch but nothing in any detail from those who attended (I was GUTTED that I couldn't make it!). Nothing on FB/Twitter either but if I see anything I'll post it here Smile

A set list would be good plus some feedback about the general vibe etc.

Maybe I could start a new thread about whose house concerts are better. Franks or the two Johns?

I have just logged on to the forum to see if there were any reviews from the weekend.

I was fortunate enough to attend the Bolton house concert on Saturday so will offer my thoughts. I am no gig reviewer though.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. The 2 John's were in great form and appeared to love every minute of it. The 35 or so of us in the audience were treated to a great evening of music and everyone appeared to love the experience.

The format was 2 halves of around 45 minutes of music with a 25 minute interval in between. What was nice about the interval was both John's mingled and chatted with everyone.

I am struggling to remember the set list in total but to give you a flavour (note the listing is not in the order performed):

Ghosts
Still too Young to remember
Hunting the Whale
Plastic Dreamer
Yellow Christian
The Tall Ships
Man in a Photograph
Send no Flowers
The Last Escape
Life on Mars
Solsbury Hill
Here comes the Flood
Once around the World/Losers day parade

The encore was a raucous rendition of Calling all the Heroes.

The Guitar and Keyboard combination worked really well in this setting.

I hope this is the start of a venture for the 2 John's. I am sure they would
look to do more of this sort of thing if the demand was there for it.

Last Saturday was amazing and I can't wait for Holmfirth

Very Happy

That's great - thanks, Andre!

So...... a hypothetical question: if the two Johns were up for more house concerts, how much interest would there be...?

Maybe it's worth widening the remit to "Acoustic Gigs" rather than house concerts as I'm guessing there are a lot of people that don't have a house big enough for 10 peeps let alone 35.

It's possible that some might be more interested in hosting an evening if they could arrange a suitable venue that wasn't a house??

Agreed - I know some lovely intimate venues which would be ideal for small gigs - but I guess the issue is if you make it an acoustic tour who does the promotion ?? An enthusiastic fan may not have the connections or cash to promote a gig widely enough to make it viable, other than via forums (fora?) such as this.
Not trying to pour scorn on the idea, just a realist (having struggled for years to get audiences to my own gigs Wink)

I attended the Bolton House Concert. It was incredible. I've seen IB alot and this was as enjoyable as a full on gig. Both JB and JM were very friendly and hung around for a good while. Nice to hear a Kino song in there and even Life On Mars. Hope they do it again soon.

The good news is that the two Johns are very open to the idea of more house gigs later in the year, so hopefully we'll get some dates thrashed out and I can start getting in touch with interested bods Smile

As regards small venues, that was actually an option this time - JM said he was happy with this. Some of the potential hosts were talking about hiring a small venue near them; another was talking about hiring part of his local pub (live music venue). It's definitely an option, and the only difference between playing a house or small venue would be the location. The conditions for the gig (i.e. payment and inviting guests, etc) would be exactly the same. If that makes life easier for those who would like to be concert hosts but don't have big enough residences, hopefully this will open things up a bit!

Very disappointed that me and Susie couldn't make either of the House concerts but great news that there may be more to come. Having attended the 2 Johns gig in Wargrave I know how good they are as a duo.

The possibility of acoustic gigs is really interesting as well. I know the Railway in Bromley Cross (near Bolton) for example is a cracking venue and would be ideal! I'll have a word....
