|

Just noticed that the last 63 member registrations are all spambots!!! Doesn't the site have a filter to prevent this? Maybe one of those annoying-but-effective "captcha" things? Just curious, is all... |

No, there's no filter, as I think this forum software is a fairly old version. Bat and I tend to spend a goodly chunk of time daily clearing the spammers...! _________________ Innit. |

Sounds familiar... our shop PC has a woefully ineffective spam filter on its email client. My first 15 minutes every morning consists of gutting all the crap mails that form about 90% of everything we receive. |

Crikey! The spam seems to have stopped. Normally get 100 + emails per day (as do the rest of the mods). Not had any for some time now. Happy days!

Hmmm, I'm not sure why (because we haven't changed anything) but the captcha type thingy has been enabled on the registration page. This is good because it's killed the spam but is bad because it doesn't work properly and you can't actually see the letters to put in the verification box. So basically no one can register!
We're not sure why it doesn't work but presumably this was the reason why it was switched off before we took maintenance of the site and forum.
Bat...do you want me to switch it back off again? It does mean the spam will probably kick in again.
I'll get the guys to have another look at why it doesn't work and see if we can figure it out. When we took a look before it seemed to be linked to an out of date or modified template. _________________ Superia Commerce...my company (and suppliers of the It Bites website) |

Reckon so. The forum needs to be open to new members. Our Dena has been sorting the spamers for many months now, sole handed, after I lost the plot and ended up deleting some genuine fans. I'm up for another round with the beggars now though! Good luck with finding a solution to eradicating the scourge once and for all!

If genuine bods can't register then it makes sense to disable it. I can do that (I think)... _________________ Innit. |

I see you've done it Dena.
We'll have another shot at fixing the problem again tomorrow or Friday, if you're ok with that?
We may need to upgrade the forum and have a new theme. _________________ Superia Commerce...my company (and suppliers of the It Bites website) |

Cheers, Gman. Do get in touch if you need to. I've got to say that it's been lovely not having to trawl through several pages of spammers over the past week or so.... _________________ Innit. |
