First chicken pasanda tonight, including 100 mls of fresh cream. Served with wholemeal chapatti and spicey garlic pickle. Result - absolutely stunning!

Tonight’s menu is heavy on the garlic and quite spicy!

Black pepper popadoms

Served with chili sauce and scotch bonnet jelly, onion salad and mint raita

Lamb shish kebabs

Served sizzler style with diced fresh garlic and onion, accompanied by fresh green salad and lemon wedges

Chicken Jalfrezi

Garlic and ginger naan bread

Drinks from the drinks selection

Fresh filter coffee and Ferero Rochet

Can't wait!

Exciting news! Aldi are actually selling Simtom "Restaurent Style" chutneys! Grap them while you can. 99 p. Unbelievable value for money. Simtom are legendary. They should really call this range "Top Restaurent Style". You can get the Lime & Chilli, Onion, and the totally out of this world (Award winner 2009) Papaya and Lime!

Found this new It Bites themed curry house just down the road. They also do a Bollywood night. Might treat Mrs. Chain.

Important news!

I've been quiet on the curry thread recently and for good reason. It's been a massive learning curve. Bought an extensive selection of dishes from one of my earlier fav takeaways recently, and most of it went in the bin. Basically it was rubbish. Not even close to the required standard of my home cuisine. I've learned from books and websites. This week, I will reveal the top 3 websites that have been most influential in guiding me in my quest to make the best curry around. One website each night, starting tomorrow, with the winner of 3rd place position.

OK. It's time to see who gets third place. However, first I'd like to give mention to a couple of chefs who were just out of the running. Kris Dillon and Reza Mahammad. Kris's books, The Curry Secret and The New Curry Secret are fantastic. The first covers the basics and the latter has some fabulous recipes. Didn't quite make it though. Reza's new book is truly outstanding. I made the julienned Mooli and pomegranate salad recently and it's unbelievable. Will be trying some of the dessert recipes soon as well. Poached pears with saffron, cinnamon, and star anise. And Beetroot samosas! But, I'm mainly interested in British Indian Style (BIR) curries. So, third place goes to Mick Crawford. Mick is well known in curry circles and is a regular writer in Chaat Magazine. I've used the recipes in his book many times and they are spot on and there are loads of useful tips and advice. Very little garlic in the base gravy. Mick's done a lot of youtubes which are well worth watching. Here's an independent review of his book, which has been essential reading for me.

Tomorrow, second place, including the best recipe for chicken madras in the world!

It's a brilliant book gazza showing that with some preparation you can produce the basic traditional curries at home in 10 minutes flat. A great introduction to BIR style cooking. I got this book and after a quick trip to one of the Indian supermarkets on the Stratford Road I was making superb starters and main courses. I think he also does it in ebook format for a couple of quid.

Watch this space for my top 2. The chef in first place has just produced an ebook that absolutely blows the lid of BIR style cooking, and last year opened his own takeaway!

Second place goes to Dan Toombs, aka, the Curry Guy. Dan is amazing. A prolific curry blogger. His website is second to none. A true inspiration to everyone. Does loads of reviews and competitions and the amount of information is massive. Check this out! There are literally hundreds of brilliant recipes. Dan has an ebook coming out soon. Auto-purchase.

As promised, the ultimate chicken madras recipe, from Dan's site.
To quote Dan. "I challenge you to find a curry house that does a better chicken madras than this one". No chance. After making this for the first time I ended up making it every night for a week! Simply, awesome!

In first place.

Drum roll.....

Julian Voight

Opened his own takeaway last year in Chorley. Brilliant website. Outstanding youtubes. New ebook is just phenomenal. All the secrets revealed on how to get "that" taste.

Website:

Youtube page:

Check out that chicken vindaloo recipe. Stunning!

And how about this! Remember the red onion chutney that was once always served at takeaways and restaurants with your poppadoms? Haven't seen any in years. Tried many times to make it in the past. No success. Until now! Julian has it sorted!

Enjoy!
