Ooh, i'll be up for this! (only just seen this thread)... although i'm not sure how it's going to work if you're sending tracks around via email and stuff? (I'm not very technical!)
I've got a digital 8-track and also use cubase, but how to split the tracks once they've arrived is beyond me???!!! Confused

Perhaps a few suggestions might help?
I see a couple of possibilities :-

1) Someone designs the whole track structure in terms of intro/verse/chorus/verse/middle-8/chorus/etc. and lays down a click track with guide voicing. This is the most likely to arrive at a consistent idea in a shorter time but doesn't necessarily allow for too much invention by the contributors. It would allow people who are happy to play something that someone else has written to contribute without composing. The more creative souls could contribute solos/embellishments.

2) Someone comes up with an idea for a verse or chorus riff and this gets fleshed out - leading to someone coming up with the bits to go before and after. This could be the most exciting in terms of not knowing where it is going next but it is more risky in that it might never come together into a finished piece or even bits that fit togehter. Someone could come up with something that is great but needs to be in a different song - nothing wrong with that but a) one song at a time might be enough and b) people would need to not get upset if/when their bit doesn't make the mix.

As far as I can see, in both of the above approaches, someone would have to receive the recorded parts from people (mp3 or wav of just their instrument - without all the other backing) and assemble the track using some suitable package.

I guess the WIP track would keep going out again ready for the next parts to be done.

Sounds simple but I don't think it is. The best thing is probably to try to get something going and for everyone to be patient while the wrinkles get ironed out. Having said that, I've been intending to get this going on the Frost* forum for some time and have so far failed to even do my bit.... Rolling Eyes

Cool

Pedders

Good stuff mate.......... A physical "musical meld" will be needed tho' in my humble opinion - this could either be exciting or disasterous either way it could be fun!!!!

Quite possibly, Bonz, me old mate, but the meld would only be musically worthwhile for those that can play live. Mouse-musos like me would only be there to drink all the beer while the others are playing! Smile

Cool Ped

You are far too modest mate - either way you could play a big part in the writing process and act as Musical Director - Head of Good Taste maybe?

Cool We could do a triangle duet like the Foos on the current tour - we would be the Phil Collins and Chester Thompson of the triangle world...... Wink

This is gathering some momentum guys!

I've got a lot of the new packages, but keep coming back to my faithful old Cakewalk, which I recently used to knock up the sequenced bit in KLJ - I could do with a crash course in Sonar or something....

I also agree that a physical bash is always a really ggod thing - I'm happy to travel halfway up country...

See you at the feast!

DBP Very Happy

That's a date, then! At the end of the Bilston feast, we must have at least arranged a date to get together...
