I do rate Eberhard Weber, but i think as an upright player, he differs from the electric group. we could start a new thread for upright players.

Entwistle, Top player and Jonas, shi* i forgot him. Another couple would be Nick Beggs and Paul keeves. Both top draw.

it goes without question the Dick is in my top ranking. As a young bass player i spent my time worshiping and learning these great players. then Dick Nolan and Bob Dalton taught me the importance of being solid. No frills just solid.

sticks are not as hard as they look. similar to FD's tap board, Nick beggs and levin top draw players. Play it like a piano put easy to carry.

Nick Beggs is great.

I also taught myself how to play by playing along to It Bites all those years ago; I also played clarinet & sax at the time and used to play in various wind bands and jazz bands, so I also used to play bass along to classical music and jazz. But Dick for sure, is one of my bass heroes.

Another great bass player is Doug Wimbish from Living Colour.

At great risk of being shot down in flames, I also played along to Simple Minds for years (this doesn't impress John Beck at all!!) and they went through a few different bass players but all pretty handy in their own ways.

simple minds were spot on Moo.

i plated classical guitar as a young 7 year old moved onto bass aged 14 never looked back. zep, jaco, jamerson and Nolan. i don't think there is much more of a basis you need.
