just wondering if anyone had any ideas why the fender was out but not played at the recent gigs. do you think it is like a "security blanket" that a child has ??? LOL Frank cant go anywhere without it !!! he did actually pick it up and put it on at sheffield but then promptly took it off and gave it to a roadie saying something about "i cant play that thing tonight". he put the gibson back on a carried on ?? . i am no guitar expert and wondered what the difference in soubd is ??

Hey mate,

I can tell you exactly why frank didn't play the fender. as you said Frank did pick it up and promptly put it back down - the reason was because he had just had the guitar restrung and the wrong strings had been used. Obviously more of the more muso types on here will tell you the correct wordage but apparently they were too thin.

So no. it wasn't a 'security blanket' that a child has.

If the strings were too "thin", then I guess too-light gague strings were used. I used to favour 9 gague Ernie Ball hybrid strings but everyone has their own preference.

Erm.. do you know something, I'm not sure. Bloody memory is awful, I probably would have noticed if he hadn't used it.

Frank didn't appear til everyone had left, I did however have a chat with him after the gig but I'm sure you understand I can't print on the forum what was said in a private conversation. He's way bigger than me so clearly I don't wanna wake up a week on tuesday after seeing him tonight.

Thats the term I was trying to think of ' the gague'. Too thin was still very descriptive though.

Sound-checks are handy. Tend to notice whether guitars have strings on them or not!

i read this on another thread :

I thought using the SG was not the best choice it did not provide the clarity his fender would have. Fling flam guitar sound was crisp.
