I went to FD's gig at the New Crown Inn in Merthyr last night looking forward to seeing Frank again.
The gig was like a house concert in a pub with approx 50 people there. As with his house concerts, I expected great music with a lot of FD talking what he likes to talk about. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes not but it's tolerable between the songs.
Last night however, he went to another level unfortunately.
Firstly he stopped mid song when someone was recording him on their phone. Fair enough but he did walk to the back of the room arms folded like a child waiting for the filming to stop.
He then proceeded to talk more than he sang and I found the content ridiculous and demeaning to the women there. From being breast fed to women only being good for a "pasting" to porn to the menopause. Every other word was the F word too, no need for it. Others there found it offensive too but unfortunately there were too many 50 year old men greasing his ego by laughing hysterically for FD to notice. By the way, I'm not usually offended or bothered by what he says as you come to expect it and take it with a pinch of salt.
Tonight was different. After 40 minutes of only 4 or 5 songs and far too much talking, I left, something I thought I'd never do at a Francis Dunnery gig.
Frank is a legend to me from when I was 17 in 1986 to now but I'm so disappointed at what he has become. Maybe it's a house concert thing and as he wasn't in someone's house, he felt he could do what he wanted.
He should focus on less talking and more of what he's great at, singing and playing the guitar.
I don't know why he feels the need to act this way but it's so sad.

I know what you mean actually. Frank is a legend to me as well but his ego is so huge it is off the scale.
Hope the Big Lad tour focuses on the music more than the 'banter'.
