I think they are now in such a strong position where they can play virtually a whole set from.their most recent albums and can also pick the best of the earlier stuff. I hope they bring back a few old favourites next time round. And a 2 hour set would also be nice.....

With new material at their disposal I feel that as It Bites progress and move on with concert selections they cannot dismiss the older material. With age their defining classic 'Once Around the World' must be inclusive in future set material...

Hmmm. I'm always a bit inclined to think that bands should play what they WANT to play. For me, gigs that the band I'm watching seem to be enjoying are nearly always the best gigs I see.

If that means I'm disappointed that they don't play my faves or 'the classics' then so be it.

love

Hmmm...I would feel that the whole excitement of a gig is enjoying live performances of your favourite songs (of that band) as opposed to watching a band simply enjoying themselves...?

Well quite often what the band want to play and what an audience want to hear are quite different!
I think this time round,as MOTP was so strong and people had had a chance to get to know it,playing the whole album made sense and in my opinion was exactly right. Future tours will prob have more of a mix but I would be very happy to hear the bulk of the set made up of MOTP and TTS with one or two oldies thrown in.

More generally,a band has to balance introducing new stuff with doing enough familiar stuff and I guess any band is going to want to keep things fresh and interesting for them.

Yes you're right rob and maybe I'm inclined to think that gig material is selected for both reasons and with 'Map..' getting such good feedback it was good that they played it live...still like the oldies though...

I think it's always best for any band to enjoy what they are playing. If it means hearing less older stuff at a gig, I'd prefer that than to have a band playing certain songs out of a sense of duty. If I want to go to a comfort zone, greatest hits type of gig I can go to an arena gig, where the masses demand hits, hits, hits.

What do you expect for musical snobbery like that?
