I kid you not, last Saturday, I took the Froglette to the The Theatre Royal, Stratford East, London to see the premiere of "Come Dancing" the musical. Co-written by- and starring - the ex-Kinks frontman, it was a really great night - especially set in the intimacy of this tiny theatre. The audience were sat on tables on the side of the stage itself - talk about up close and personal! Ray kicks off with "Tired of Waiting For You", and then "Come Dancing" itself (interestingly, the only US hit record for that group, I believe), before stopping mid-way through the title track to begin an introductary narrative of the play, which is loosely based on his up-bringing near the Ilford Palais in the 1950's, where his sisters used to go out on a Saturday night. Ray has written a catalogue of new material for the production, some songs were really strong, and I'm keen to hear these again.

Anyway, a top show, and highly recommended if you fancy something a little different (or enjoy Ray/The Kinks work). Personally, I bleedin' hate musicals... but I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Wink

Ps. before anyone asks, no, Dick N did NOT feature in the live band used...

OldMan, you're encouraging me to announce my love of Mr Davies publically... he's the most underrated singer songwriter this country has ever produced, IMHO. 22 quality albums in 20 years? (Damn, you, iTunes, your convenience has cost me dear...! Wink)

Check out the "Albert (or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)", 1969 for an excellent example of RD's output.

Also, check here for a snippet of the show from the man himself:
